Med Prep senior Krista Burrows has been awarded a 2014 Darrell Parks Student Scholarship. The $1000 scholarship is awarded annually by the Ohio Association of Career and Technical Education. Any student enrolled in a Career and Technical Program in the state of Ohio is eligible to apply and only two scholarships are awarded each year. Students must complete an application and include a 500-1,000 word essay describing how their career-technical education has benefited them and why they are applying for the scholarship. Krista was surprised when the Director of Ohio's Association of Career and Technical Education, Christine Gardner (while on a tour of Tri Star), stopped in the Med Prep classroom to announce the scholarship award. A formal presentation will be made at the 2014 Connections to Education Conference Kick-Off Networking Reception, Wednesday, July 30 at the Hilton Easton in Columbus.
Krista, who is from Coldwater, will use the scholarship at Xavier University where she plans to major in pre-med with the goal of becoming a doctor of osteopathic medicine. You can read about Krista and the other scholarship recipient on the Ohio ACTE website by clicking here. This is the second time a Tri Star student has received the scholarship as Blake Kremer of Fort Recovery was awarded one in 2012.
