Five robotics and automation scholarships, worth a total of $34,000, were up for grabs recently at the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) and Tri Star REC Tech seniors walked away with all five. Matt Tangeman took the top prize of $20,000. Zane Schoer took the second place scholarship winning $5000, third place and $4,000 went to Devin Sharp, fourth place and $3000 went to A.J. (Andrew) Heitkamp and C.J. Vanderhorst took fifth place winning $2000. This is the second year that the REC Tech students have come out on top. Last year, the senior class won four of the five available scholarships.
Every fall, the UNOH College of Applied Technologies holds an open house and scholarship testing for high school seniors interested in degrees related to automotive, diesel, ag. equipment, motorsports, HVAC/R, and robotics and automation technology. This year’s event was held Nov. 3rd and 4th.
REC Tech students who choose to attend UNOH for robotics and automation can also articulate up to six semester hours of college credit. Tri Star is the only high school in the nation to have this articulation agreement with UNOH.
