Galen Backs, a senior in Tri Star’s REC Tech program and Nathan Steinlage, a senior in Ag. Mechanics both took first place in their respective scholarship testing at the University of Northwestern Ohio. Backs, from Coldwater, won a $20,000 scholarship for robotics and automation while Steinlage, from St. Henry, won $20,000 for agriculture/diesel.
Also winning scholarships in the robotics and automation testing were REC Tech seniors Austin Kremer from Marion Local, who took second place earning $5,000 and Jacob Weimert, from New Knoxville, who took fourth place earning $3,000. This is the fourth year in a row that a student in the Tri Star REC Tech program has won the top robotics and automation scholarship at UNOH. Jerry Kohnen is the REC Tech program’s instructor. In addition to his scholarship, Steinlage (pictured below) won a $2,000 prize from Magic Paint for his tractor restoration work. Ken Platfoot is Tri Star’s Ag. Mechanics program.
