Keyboarding and Computer Literacy or other computer class

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
Computer Service Technician, Computer Operator, Computer Sales and Service, Electronics Mechanic, Network Control Operator, Technical Support Specialist, Computer Engineer, Computer Systems Analyst, and Computer Support Specialist. Some careers will require additiional education beyond high school.

 

 

Computer Support Technology (CST), a two-year College Tech Prep program, is designed to prepare students for A+ Certification and Cisco’s CCNA Certification (Tri Star does not offer the certification tests, but students will have the opportunity to take these tests after graduation for a discounted fee). The program includes both theoretical and hands-on learning in the following areas:

  • Basic computer component functions/replace ment
  • Computer diagnostics/problem diagnosis
  • Component changing and upgrading
  • Network operation and set-up
  • Data collection and storage
  • Data transmission through fiber, wireless, and wire connectivity
  • Configuration of IP and routing protocols
  • Creating Cisco router configuration files from scratch
  • Successful installation and configuration of
    Cisco routers to build multi-protocol internet
    works.

Students receive hands-on experience with the following equipment in this class: computers, data switch gear, diagnostic software, network software and basic service tools. Qualifying seniors may participate in early placement during the last nine weeks of the school year.
