Sixteen Tri Star REC Tech students attended the Rhodes State College IT/ET Challenge (Information Technology/ Engineering Technology) on Friday, March 11th. Junior Troy Bruggeman (pictured at right), placed first and junior Zack Klosterman, placed third in the Electronics Challenge. While a team of juniors: Tristan Thompson, Sam Rohr, and Calvin Rammel, finished in third place in the Robotics Challenge.
The electronics challenge consisted of a multiple-choice electronics test plus building a small project by soldering components onto a printed circuit board. For the robotics challenge students had to design, build and program a robot to navigate an obstacle course.
More than 200 students from Apollo, Miller City-New Cleveland, Ohio Hi-Point, Ridgemont, Tri Star and Vantage converged on the Rhodes State College Campus to compete at the annual event. This is the 15th consecutive year that the REC Tech class has won first place at the Rhodes IT/ET Challenge. Students were coached by REC Tech instructor, Jerry Kohnen.
