It’s hard to believe but approximately 143 Tri Star students who attend career technical classes at the St. Marys Dennings Building, have collected and donated 14,959 nonperishable food items to the Agape Ministries Food Pantry in St. Marys this year. The annual drive is a source of pride for the juniors and seniors in the Engineering Technology, Med Prep, Precision Machining, REC Tech and Welding classes. This year’s group of students set out to break the 2015 record of 7,726 donated items. The students, over the course of a school year hold fundraisers and donate their own hard earned money in order to purchase the canned goods. According to records kept by the Med Prep class, Tri Star students at the Dennings Building have donated 49,534 items between 2006 and 2015.
Students who participate in the food drive say they feel gratified that they are able to help those in need as well as support the food pantry.
