This week, Engineering Technology Instructor, Jon Clouse recently completed a geometry CAD lesson with the junior welding students. The lesson was "How to make geometry using AutoCAD and then using the plasma cutter to create!” According to Clouse, making geometry is a designers way of making a drawing/design using 2-D lines, arcs and circles.
Clouse worked with the welding students to help them draw a shooting target that he had designed. Each student had the opportunity to customize their target as they wished. Once drawn/designed the students cut them out on the plasma cutter. 18 students successfully cut out their designs while a couple failed due to errors in using the CAD system. The purpose of the lesson is to give those welding students some idea of what it is like to create and use the CAD system. All-in-all it was a successful lesson for the junior welding students.
