Fifteen Med Prep seniors were pinned Sunday afternoon at Tri Star’s Pinning Ceremony. The annual event recognizes graduating seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Med Prep program over the last two years.
Junior Med Prep SkillsUSA president, Larisa Orick began the afternoon by welcoming parents, relatives, and school administrators to the ceremony, which was held at St. Marys Memorial High School’s performance hall. This was the first year the ceremony was not held in the Med Prep classroom due to the growth of the extremely popular program.
Erin Tebbe, Senior SkillsUSA president, spoke on behalf of the seniors reflecting on their experiences, what the Med Prep program meant to them, and gratitude for their instructors Brenda Speck and Annette Albers, as well as retired Med Prep instructor Janet Nelson.
The highlight of the ceremony was the pinning of each senior by Speck. Each senior received a caduceus pin, a universally recognized medical symbol of two serpents entwined around a staff surmounted with wings. The pin is worn throughout the senior’s final weeks of observation for the Med Prep class, as well as in their future careers.
Tim Buschur, Tri Star’s Director, presented each graduate with a career passport. The passport is a portfolio which contains documentation of a student’s educational, community and work experience, including a certification of the skills the students have mastered in the College Tech Prep Med Prep program. The junior class also gave each senior a red rose and a gift.
The afternoon concluded with a candle lighting ceremony, recitation of the Health Occupations Pledge by students, and closing thoughts from Speck.
