Tri Star Career Compact’s junior Med Prep students hosted the 25th annual Med Prep pinning ceremony for senior Med Prep students on Monday, May 10th in the Crown Student Union at Tri Star. Tri Star's pinning ceremony recognizes and honors students who have completed the two year Med Prep program. This is the first pinning ceremony to be held in the new Tri Star facility. Due to COVID-19 safety protocols only senior parents were permitted to attend the ceremony. (See photo gallery below.)
Historically, pinning ceremonies in the United States began in the 1860's and were held to honor and celebrate nursing students and their journey to becoming a nurse. According to Wikipedia.org it is "a symbolic welcoming of newly graduated or soon-to-be graduated nurses into the nursing profession."
Juniors Aliyah Arling, SkillsUSA president, and Mallory Messick, SkillsUSA vice president, gave the welcome message followed by senior SkillsUSA president Britney Klenke who gave the seniors’ thoughts. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the caduceus pin to each senior from Med Prep instructors, Brenda Speck and Annette Albers. Each senior was also presented with a career passport from Tri Star Assistant Director Brian Stetler and a flower from the junior class.
The career passport is a portfolio which contains documentation of a student’s educational, community and work experience, including a certification of the medical skills the students have mastered in the Med Prep program.
Following the pinning portion of the ceremony, a candle lighting was held which signifies the passage of knowledge from teacher to seniors and from seniors to juniors. To end the evening, Mrs. Annette Albers and Mrs. Brenda Speck (Med Prep instructors) gave some closing thoughts and encouragement to the seniors for their future endeavors.
