Annually, during the month of October, eighth grade students from Celina, Coldwater, Fort Recovery, Marion Local, Minster, New Bremen, New Knoxville, St. Henry and St. Marys schools tour Tri Star Career Compact. Known as the “eighth grade tours”, the daylong tour is provided to familiarize the eighth graders with Tri Star and its classrooms as well as help them develop an awareness of the many career pathways available through career technical education.
The eighth graders spend 10 minutes in each of 13 different workforce development programs including welding, manufacturing and machining, medical preparation (med prep), construction, interactive media, IT/cybersecurity, ag. Industrial tech, automotive tech, teaching professions, graphic communications, animal health, engineering tech, and REC Tech (Robotic, Electronic, and Computer technologies).
Those eighth graders who were willing tested their skills by trying some of the hands-on activities showcased such as using the virtual welder in welding (Who had the highest score?!), or soldering and using the teach pendant in REC Tech, or using a green screen in Interactive Media, or trying on PPE (personal protective equipment) in Med Prep. Some eighth graders took the opportunity to pet the variety of animals in animal health too. (Check out the photos below to see all the activities the eighth graders were able to participate in).
For those eighth graders and their parents who want more information about a specific program, be sure to attend Tri Star's Open House on December 9th , 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Thanks to all of our supporting schools and their eighth graders for attending!
