Program Overview
Animal Health (formerly Vet Tech) is a two year STEM program, which provides training in the field of animal science, veterinary medicine, and the animal industry. The course will cover both large and small animals. Students will study and develop skills in:
• Identification and treatment of medical conditions and diseases in animals
• Animal health and nutrition
• Animal behavior
• Provide treatment for routine problems
• Assist with physical exams, clinical exams, hospital and laboratory procedures, and minor surgery
• Anatomy and physiology
• Medical terminology
• Grooming/handling
• Safety and Sanitation
• Office/business management – maintain records, inventory, pharmaceuticals, and equipment and supplies
Qualifying seniors may participate in a capstone project. Qualifying students may earn college credit at Wright State University-Lake Campus for the coursework they successfully complete in Tri Star's Animal Health program.
INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS - Students have the opportunity to earn:
- Elanco Animal Health Certification (6 pts.)
- Elanco Med Application (6 pts.)
TO PREPARE FOR THIS CLASS: Students are required to successfully complete a biology class prior to or during the junior year. It is also helpful to take as many math and science classes as possible, plus agricultural related classes.
