Tri Star Honors Outstanding Students
Tri Star Career Compact hosted a banquet for its outstanding students last week at Romers in Celina. The annual banquet was held to honor juniors and seniors from each of 18 different career technical programs. Students were recognized for their academic achievements, dependability, leadership, academic excellence, maturity, growth in their program, participation in student organizations, volunteerism, work ethic, professionalism, and character. Instructors from each program selected two students to honor.
Tri Star also celebrated outstanding community partners who have supported Tri Star in some way. Community partners recognized this year were Jack and Gloria Clouse and Jim and Karen Perts. The late Jack Clouse was a Tri Star CBI instructor for four years after having taught science at Celina High School for 38 years. He loved teaching and had a unique connection with students who needed extra help. His wife Gloria has continued Jack’s legacy of helping students by sponsoring scholarships and providing financial assistance toward the testing/computer lab at Tri Star. Accepting the award for the Clouses was their son-in-law Don Berry.
Jim and Karen Perts were also honored. Jim was a metallurgist with the St. Marys Foundry for 47 years. Jim Perts toured Tri Star’s facility when it opened in 2019 and was impressed and decided he wanted to help students. Unfortunately, before he could do that he passed away. His family decided to honor him and his desire to support Tri Star by establishing the James Leslie Perts Memorial Fund in 2022. The memorial fund has been used to enhance the welding program by creating a welding/metal testing lab within the welding classroom.
